Like most people going to university a decent distance away from home, I didn't know a soul there. Now, for most people this would probably make them feel ridiculously nervous, but I actually felt very calm when my moving day came around. It probably had a lot to do with the fact that I was rushing around trying to pack and prepare myself for this huge change in my life, but I was always very excited and ready to go to uni, straight after the moment I got my acceptance email (which is still the happiest moment of my life, so far).
I enjoyed meeting new people, making friends, going to lectures, getting far to drunk during the many nights out over the course of the year and just being away from home in general. Don't get me wrong, I have a great home life, but the independence you get from uni suited me so well, maybe too well.. I will admit my time keeping was never the best and I went out a lot more than I should've, but I achieved my goal of getting into second year, so I guess I wasn't too bad! Don't worry, I have big plans to get my first overall.
My social life at university was great and I definitely took advantage of first year not counting. However, it was not the only great part of my year away from home. My accommodation was perfect; great showers, comfy bed, incredible flatmates and a really easy place to get down and study when the time came. Also, my course was perfect. I study Economics BA and it was exactly what I wanted from a course, it fulfilled my love for economics, which came about when I studied it at A Level, whilst still challenging me in new topics, such as advanced statistics and economic math.
Many of my friends have had a great year without going to university; getting jobs, travelling or gaining education outside of uni. However, I can't imagine my life without having chosen to go to university. It has honestly been the best year of my life for so many reasons and I'm unbelievably excited about going back in September.
Can't wait to share the adventures of second year with you all,
The Teenage Procrastinator
